8. Powdered Sugar

9. Vanilla Extract

Now the vanilla extract is optional. It totally depends on the personal preference of the person eating it. The vanilla extract makes the cake richer and sweeter so if you want to make your funnel cakes more richer you need this.

Note – Make sure that you are not using too much sugar in the mixture because the powdered sugar on top will make sure that there is enough sweetness in the cakes.

How to Make Funnel Cake Without a Funnel?

What makes you think that you can not make a funnel cake without a funnel? It is easy and simple to make. You just need your funnel cake mixture or batter and then you need to pour it into the measuring cup.

You can slowly tip the measuring cup and make a thin stream of funnel cake batter fall in the oil. However make sure that your stream is thin and you are constantly moving the measuring cup to make sure that not much batter is poured in one spot.

If you have a funnel then that’s great but there are other options too. If the measuring cup is not a good option for you then you can also use a pipping bag for the process.

Ingredients

Let’s get down on the measurement and stuff. No one likes this but it is important. So to make a funnel cake you will need-

1. 2 cups of all purpose flour

2. 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar

3. 1 teaspoon baking powder

4. 1/2 teaspoon salt

5. 2 large eggs lightly beaten

6. 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

7. Powdered sugar for dusting funnel cakes

8. Vegetable Oil

9. 1 cup milk.

Instructions

Step 1: Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well-combined.

Step 2: Now take a separate bowl and whisk together milk, eggs, and vanilla extract (if using) until well-combined.

Step 3: Now add dry ingredients to the wet ones while whisking together. Until it is smooth and combined make sure that you whisk properly. Now set it aside.

Step 4: Fill a sauce pan with vegetable oil. You can also use any other neutral oil. Have the heat on medium low and place a candy thermometer in the oil. Heat the oil up to 190°C. However, make sure that your thermometer is not touching the bottom of the pan but in the middle of the container.

Step 5: Now once the oil is perfectly heated up then you need to take your funnel cake mixture and pour it into the oil in a thin stream. Swirl and criss cross the batter over itself to make the cakes. Fry the batter cakes on each side until it is golden brown. Now take out the cakes and place it in a towel lined with paper to remove the extra oil.

Step 6: Use powdered sugar to dust take cakes.

Step 7: Now repeat the process until you are satisfied with the amount of funnel cake that you have made.

If you are making your funnel cake you need some things to keep in mind. Here are a few notes that everyone needs.

1. If your batter is too thick then you need to add more milk into the mixture. Mix as much milk as is required to make the batter into a pourable mixture. The amount of milk required sometimes vary from person to person so no need to panic.

2. If you have a funnel then of course you can use that to make an easy funnel cake. You will need a clean funnel. Plug the hole at the bottom with your finger then pour your funnel cake mixture into it. Hold the funnel over oil and then remove your finger.

Then move that in a circular motion to make sure that your funnel cake turns out to be perfect. The batter will drizzle on to the oil and it will fry quite nicely.
