Well, we all know what flan is but if you have by any chance have not had flan in your life or maybe you have had it but do not know its name then let us tell you what flan is.

It is simply a creamy custard dessert. It is very easy to make and a good and easy flan recipe will only require only 5 ingredients. It is a very popular dessert in Mexico, Spain, and Latin America. It is a very popular and show stopper dessert.

Now I must admit that I did not eat much flan while growing up but now that I have had it, I do not know how I survived all those years without eating a flan. I absolutely love to eat flan now. So I thought I will share my recipe with you for making one of the tastiest and smoothest creamy flan you will ever eat.

Flan Recipe

This is a very easy recipe that you can make without much effort. First I heard about it from a friend and I did not give much attention to it but once I tasted it, I was in heaven. I have tried a lot of different recipes for making flan but the simplest one remains my FAVOURITE.

It needs only a handful of ingredients and it is easy to make. The ingredients are also easily available and quite affordable too.

What is a Flan?

The question has been answered before but in case you missed it, flan is a creamy custard dessert that has been topped with caramel. It is very popular in Spain, Mexico and Latin America but now it is spreading its influence and more and more people are loving it now.

The custard is cooked in a water bath which gives it its iconic creamy texture. This allows steaming in the oven which makes sure that the consistency of the flan remains perfect and the flan rises evenly. It also make sure that the eggs do not get over cooked or scrambled.

A flan is cooked with caramel at the bottom and the custard on top. Now you must be wondering then how does the caramel get on top? Well its simple really. We just flip the flan or invert it which makes the caramel on the top and the custard at the bottom. It is a very magical dessert.

It also tastes extremely perfect. Like I stated I have not been having flan for quite some years, I started quite recently. But oh boy, do I enjoy eating flan every second of my life? Hell yes! I can eat flan till the day I die. I have always got a sweet tooth. This dessert is going to change your life.

Ingredients in Flan

The flan is made of only 5 ingredients and it is painfully easy to make. I love this recipe so much that I can not stress on this enough. Now you might think that you will not find this simple recipe tasty or maybe it will be too plain for you but trust me when I say that the charm of this recipe lies in its simplicity. Now put your faith in us and gather around the ingredients–

1. Whole milk

2. Eggs

3. Vanilla Extract

4. Sugar

5. Sweetened Condensed Milk

You might also need a 7 inch cake pan or maybe a special pan called flanera. It is specially made to make flans. We recommend the latter because it is easier to make flan in an utensil that is specifically designed to make flan. I mean its whole life purpose is to make flans.

It is not so expensive. You can get a flanera for quite reasonable price and it is going to come quite in handy because we promise that you will want to make more and more flan after you eat the first one!

How to Make Flan

Well now let’s get down to the main business.

Step 1: First step is to make your caramel. Pour some sugar and heat it up in a skillet. You need to keep the flame low and let the sugar melt slowly. You also need to keep it stirring so that the sugar does not burn or stick to the pan. Stir until the caramel is formed.

Step 2: Now place the caramel at the bottom of the flanera. You need to work quickly because the caramel will harden in a matter of seconds. Try to even out the caramel at the bottom of the pan as much as possible.

Step 3: Now set aside the pan and let the caramel harden a bit. In the meantime you need to whisk the whole milk, eggs, vanilla extract and sweetened Condensed milk together. But do not make too much air bubbles. Do not over do it.

Step 4: Pour the mixture in the flanera.

Step 5: Now if you are using a pan then you need to cover it with aluminium foil and if you are using flanera then use the lid.

Step 6: Now place the pan or flanera in a baking tray and fill the tray with water. Filling it halfway is good enough. You need to bake the flan for about 1 hour and 25 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 7: After its done, take out the flan and remove the lid. Then place the flan into the freezer for 4 hours.

Step 8: Gently slide the knife around the edge of the flan to loosen it.

Step 9: Now take a plate and place it over the pan. Now flip over the pan gently and let the flan slide out. Now you only need a slice and you are in heaven.
